1988 4.0 head bolts
You can get them with a gasket at your local Advance Auto.
A few pointers...
The torque sequence is very important.
A 12 point 13mm 1/2 drive socket is your best friend.
Inspect the collector on your manifold, be prepared to get a new one.
Port matching your head will free-up a few ponies.
Use a piece of cardboard with the numbers 1 thru 16 written on it. put a small cut below each numbers and slip the pushrods into the slit so you can make sure that they go back into the correct location.
A silver Sharpie works great for marking the rockers.
Use a brass wire-wheel to clean off the gasket surfaces...you'll thank me later.
Double, triple, and quadruple check the exhaust/intake manifolds to be sure that they fully seated before completing your project and trying to start the engine.

Indeed. Also, bolt 11 needs loctite 592, and gets torqued to a lower value than the rest, and torque to the proper sequence!!! Bolt 14 is a pain to get in, too, use some tape to hold it in place when you drop the head in.
...especially if they have been painted on the heads. Just replace them while you're in there, $40-50 for new head bolts is a small cost but good insurance when it comes to doing it the right way...

RockAuto.com for the bolts, FelPro gasket, maybe even the 592. As mentioned ^^^ VERY IMPORTANT unless you wanna do this all over again extremely soon.
Another bit of advice. Buy a small 8lbs hand sledge (unless you have one already) and beat the CRAP outa that pinch weld that will NOT be your friend when you are removing the head. You will learn where I mean.
Otherwise. Stay Calm and Wrench On.

that tape trick I found a picture of that now I know why.

Do yourself a favor and get a FSM for your year specific XJ. Can be had for $10-20 in PDF form online. Everything you would ever want to know and then some is in there. I wouldn't want to post the info from mine as it may vary from year to year. Just get one, it will be one of the most useful tools you will buy for your rig....you might also be able to google your year, make, and model for torque sequence and values....
