Axle shims for 4.5in lift
Do I NEED axle shims for a 4.5in lift with/without t-case drop?
I'm going to wait on the t-case drop to determine if I REALLY need to do it before I do. No SYE, too cheap.

I could be wrong but I think so, I priced a kit with a t case drop and it was only 680.?? I figure lift and a set of 33" tires will run about 1500 I was told that I wouldn't have to get longer shafts if I used th t case kit but I should think without one shims woul have to be used at least, I would go for the t case kit myself and be sure

Im like 99% positive that axles shims will do nothing unless you get an SYE. This is because in the first pic is what your driveline looks like now, and that is what it should look like. The second pic is what your driveline looks like with the SYE. See how the axle is tilted up? Thats what the axle shims do so that the axle is inline with the DS. Without the SYE, you don't want your axle tilted forward

Axle shims can make a difference if you're using extended shackles. I'm not using an sye. I.got a longer d.s. out of a grand the used the whim to set the pinion angle. If you put an angle finder on the fill plug on the tcase the put it on the flat surface on the end of the yoke where the bolts go (d.s. out) and compare the readings, you should be within 3 degrees or so. If you aren't you can shim it to get the correct angle.

I've got 4.5'' - 5'' of lift, with a hack and tap sye, my angle is okay, shims are really up to you. Can't hurt as long as you have the sye.
If I wasnt going tons in the future, id pull apart and add some shims.

99 on 5 or so inches coming out of a NP242 with HNT SYE putting power through a stock rebuilt shaft(by me) to an 8.25 with 4* shims and full packs. No vibes at all. I was at 3 inches with nothing and the vibes were annoying.
