Default Eaton Detroit Truetrac LSD

I’m looking at ditching my open differential and installing a Truetrac LSD for traction enhancement on snow/ icy road conditions. I spend a lot of time driving around Utah in the winter (retired firefighter/ ski bum), my ‘03 WJ is a 2WD model, my research points towards a Truetrac torque bias LSD (clutch pack LSD bad in snow/ icy roads, personal experience), open differential ok, but traction deficient. I’m interested to know what experience anyone has had using this type of differential in their rigs with snow/ icy road conditions.

Only in front axle with a Truetrac. I really like it.

Yes they are great units but I wouldn't put one in a rear Dana 35 axle, I would put it in the front if you really need one. My WJ never had a single issue getting around in the snow with front and rear open differentials.

Thanks folks, you kind of sort of answered my question, however, since as my WJ is as I pointed out a 2WD only model, there isn’t a front differential. That being said, what I’m looking to find out is what traction performance improvement could I expect with a Truetrac versus an open differential?

It makes a big difference over an open differential, as long as the axle stays together you will notice a big improvement.

Not a fan of the Dana 35 I take it, that being said, I won’t be doing anything crazy, just driving snow covered roads where improved traction would be a big plus. Thanks for the input…
