Default Power inverter

I would like to get a power inverter. I am not really sure what to get though other than I would like it to be hard wired to the battery. I don't want to run anything to aggressive but would like to run something more then a phone charger. What I mean is I'm not trying to run a compressor or anything specific. But think it would be nice for camping. Maybe run the dogs wireless collar etc...

i've always wanted to, but have never run one in the jeep. i came across a 1000w unit 15 years ago at a garage sale. it sat on the shelf for 13 of those years till i wired it into my pop up camper. not quite enough for my liking so the wife bought me a brand new 3000w one for christmas last year. gonna wire that in the camper and maybe pull the old one and wire it up in my big xj. always worried as it seems to be a submarine the odd time. lol

I have a 1750 watt inverter. It is mounted in the back and I use it to run a small apartment sized refrigerator when camping or wheeling and power tools on the places on my acreage that are way too far for any extension cord. They come in all sizes and you need to figure out what you want to run and the watts it draws and then go from there. Don't forget that you need cables from the battery that will handle 12 times the wattage to feed it. Also you can overwhelm your charging system quickly if you run something continuously.

I keep a small 400 watt unit around. Before I switched over to a battery powered chainsaw I packed my 1500 watt inverter around to run my corded chainsaw but now days nearly all of my electrical gizmos are 5V USB or 12V powered. I now pack a briefcase solar generator I built myself along to use when camped to preserve the Jeep's battery and either charge it off the solar panel during the day or hook to the 12v outlet in the back of the Jeep to charge while going down the road. On my last Jeep I had a 1000watt unit installed in the cubby in the cargo area. The properly sized cables needed to properly power an inverter are pretty thick and can get expensive.

I've also always wanted to hard-wire in an inverted. Not at the top of my list though.

I'd say think of some things you would want to run off of it, find the wattage that you need, then double (or triple) it. Why? Because once you run that cables and install it, you'll definitely find more uses for it than you originally intended. Either that, or at least run big cables the first time so you can increase the inverted size if you ever so desired.
