Okay guys, so obviously the stock lights that come on the 97-01 XJ's are a pain in the *** to deal with and they aren't very bright. Now I have looked into just about every conversion kit. Ever housing. Halogens vs. LED's. LED's vs. HID's. I am unsure what to do. I just want brighter lights. Somebody help me out please

Start with the first step. No matter what choice you make about bulbs, there's one step that is a MUST before you do anything else.
Install the upgrade headlight harness.
Do that FIRST, then re-evaluate your needs. It might be all you need to do.
If that's not bright enough, what's the next easy step? Get a couple of Sylvania SilverStars and see how that works for you. Not expensive, and brain-dead easy.
If that's not good enough, then you at least have a better idea where you want to go, and you have that necessary first step done.

Most people get a putco http://goo.gl/BfLvAu
One side plugs into the headlights, the other plugs into one of the oem harness and uses that to power some relays. The harness is designed to wire the headlights directly to the battery but you'll want to add fuses.

If you're looking for the best bang for your buck upgrade do the harness listed above with new housings to accept h4 bulbs. Google h4 conversion if you haven't seen it yet.
