I guess I should look into how! I have this electronics store near me and it has all the rocker switches, fuses and wires I would need to do it for under $20

I just cut wires at my switch and ran the up thru shifter hole. No hacking of wires at all. Automatic would need to splice longer wires.

Seems about right. What if I just make a separate harness for the reverse lights but use the normal reverse light location to put in a brighter bulb? I can get a bulb socket for pretty cheap

Yep just mount switch and done.

Wanted to thank you for that idea works great and had all the parts on hand. I shines out to the side more as my tire swing covers a lot of the lens and always had to use mirrors anyway for back-up.

I had the same problem with my old XJ, but my new one, they had replaced the licence plate light with one that can be moved (for hauling a motorcyle, moving the plate to the side).

The accessory LED that is for the license plate is brighter than my reverse lights. I have to turn on the headlights to turn on the plate light, but it lights up behind me amazingly.
