Default When is first service due 2019 cherokee

I've been getting emails from the dealer where I bought it new.
They tell me it's due for it's 3000 mile service.
Checking with the service dept they say it's due at 8k to 10k miles.
(like the manual says)

Any idea why they would say it's due at 3K miles.
Are they just trying to get some money for looking at it?

Almost certainly an automatic email sent to everyone who's purchased a vehicle at that dealership. Years ago, vehicles generally needed an oil change around 3,000 miles. That's pretty rare today for newer vehicles.

No, the manual and the service department have it right: 8000-10,000 miles is right.

Your owner's manual is your best friend regarding maintenance. I'm not sure they include the big old manual anymore (or even a service guide), but you can download it online off of Jeep's website. In the Service section of the manual, there should be a maintenance schedule. Of course, it all depends on your driving habits and the mileage you drive. On my '14 Grand Cherokee, I can go 5k-8k between oil changes, and that's with regular driving habits, 40 miles per day 5 days a week. You can also go into the EVIC (screen in the center of the gauge cluster), and go through the menus until you see 'Oil Life' appear. There, it will tell you two things:

1.) The percentage of oil life left.
2.) The amount of mileage you've driven since the oil life was reset (which should be done at every oil change).

When the oil life gets low enough, it'll give you a reminder on the EVIC that it's time to change the oil.

Sure, they are trying to raise $$$$. Car dealers no longer make their money selling cars, today they sell cars just to get fodder for their service departments. Either the e-mails are sent in error, or the dealer is trying to trick owners into bringing in their brand-new vehicles for unnecessary ‘service’.

It all depeds on your mileage and time since last oil change. I usually change every 6 months, April and October, regardless of mileage. Usually by that time the Jeep is at about 3000 miles, but still like 50-60% on the oil change indicator on the cluster. I personally don't pay attention to that, I go by how the oil itself seems. Usually the dealers will sell some sort of 39.95 service for oil change, tire rotation, etc. etc. It's not a bad thing for like 100 bucks a year.

When is the tire rotation due. 8 - 10 K seems like a lot for the tire rotation even if the oil isn't due yet.

Page 448 of the Owners Manual states to rotate the tires at every oil change, or sooner if uneven wear is seen. If you think that is not often enough, then rotate them sooner. But a lot depends on proper tire pressures and alignment, I’ve owned numerous vehicles with staggered unidirectional performance tires (which can’t be rotated without remounting) where the tires lasted fine without uneven wear.

Sounds like the manual may still be based on the older more often oil changes.
What do most people here do? 5K or 10K?
I'm looking for actual experience not interpretations of the manual.

Can't the uni directional tires be rotated front to back on the same side even if you can't rotate them diagonanally?

I've rotated my directional tires (Goodyear Assurance Tripletread) front to back on the same side for years. On my Mercury Grand Marquis, the first set I had got about 45000 miles and still had about 6/32 left when I had to replace them from some minor dry rot (over 10 years). That vehicle has since been doing 12000 miles per year, with about 35000 miles on it and are at 8/32. I also rotate 2 times a year.

What tires are you running on the vehicle?

I know the manufacturer and others say longer service intervals, but I figure the only thing changing it more often could be hurting is my wallet, and I'd rather pay a little bit than risk engine or other problems.
