Default clicking gear shifter

my 2017 Cherokee started clicking when I shift out of park. I've googled but can't find any help or ideas.

Hi, Julie. Can you describe the clicking a little more?

When you push the button on the shifter before you shift into gear, is that when you hear the click? If so that is normal. It is part of the shift interlock device i believe. I can push and release the button and have the click come and go.

Typical hit-and-run thread, the newbie OP hasn’t been back to the forum since she posted. Apparently she found her answer elsewhere - or doesn’t care to find out here.

Hey, we all try to help. If they don't want to take our advice, what can you do?

Agreed, but she never even came back to check, she doesn’t know if anyone tried to help or not. That’s why it’s typical, makes trying to help newbies a waste of time and happens more and more often on many forums. Now I always check to see when the OP was last on the forum - if it’s been more than four days I don’t waste my time. There are plenty of folks who actually do want help, enough to stick around for an answer.
