First of all I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee 1999 Limited Edition. Lately the gear shifter on the center console has been getting stuck from park into any other gear. Its been really hard to press the button but after that it moves easy between gears. Then today the after I struggled to get the button depressed It stayed depressed, this caused me to not be able to get my key out of the ignition when it was in park. When I got home tonight me and my roommates were able to finally get the car in park and get the key out but now I cant get it out of park. The button does not depress and it doesnt budge at all. I need some help, please help me if you can. I would prefer not to have to get it towed.

pull the shifter handle off and see if you can press the button easily.
it might be just your shifter handle and a replacement could fix your problem.
