Default 2014 Cherokee - repeated trans problems from gas??

Hey everyone, hoping someone can help me out here. I bought my Cherokee new in '14, yesterday for the fourth time since I've owned it it's sitting at the dealership. From the previous 3 times, I was told that I overfilled the gas tank (I NEVER top off and usually stop it before the pump clicks off) and it caused an issue with the transmission.

Check engine light comes on, service transmission message, the whole 9 yards. Luckily I had the extended warranty but now that is almost up and I just had the same issue again. I've never heard of this being a problem in any car ever. Has anyone had this issue or know if there's a more permanent fix? Thanks in advance if you can help me out here.

All my problems with the newer Cherokees have been the result of dealer's mechanics error.
FCA customer service only dealt with financial matters, effectively telling dealer to stop work when charges mounted, then start again when I call to complain.
Logging experience with Carfax (when asked for online opinion) shamed them for awhile.
Only recourse seemed to be to find the home address of the dealer and pay a personal visit.

How does overfilling the gas tank affect the transmission, exactly? Thats a new one. I dont see the connection. If the CEL is on, there is a code. Did the dealer hook it up and see what that code was?

Find. Another. Mechanic.

Yours is either a complete imbecile or a crook. Those are the only possible reasons for saying that overfilling your gas tank might affect your transmission.

The idiocy of that is staggering. That's like saying that eating steak will cause your paint to peel off your house.

Oh, by the way, this is the wrong forum. This part of the site is for the classic Cherokee, made up until 2001. Yours has its own space over here.

BTW, I flagged your post, so a moderator will probably move it to the correct place pretty soon. No worries.

Over filling a tank will only damage the evaporative fuel system, I have never seen a way it could affect the transmission. Cause engine performance issues.. absolutely, but not transmission issues. lol wow

Thanks guys. I did a google search and apparently there are a ton of people complaining about the same issue. It makes no sense to me at all. This is the dealership telling me this too not a random garage.

In spite of the “lol wow” above, there have been reports of transmission codes being thrown due to overfilling the tank. Here is one service report posted: 57953 Found code P1DDD unable to engage drive or reverse, found start case number S1814000002. Found fuel pump vent sticking causing liquid fuel ingestion into vapor system replaced per Star case”.. So apparently a clogged vapor system can throw a transmission code. Complex electronics can experience interference and cross ”contamination” issues.
