I paid $2000 for my '97 in amazing shape. The key is, if it is worth it to you, then it's worth it. Look up a KBB value on it, and go from there. Take in consideration what it will need, if anything, and do some mental calculations. Make sure that it will pass inspection (if you live in an "emissions county"), and if it doesn't have a current sticker, get him to have it inspected prior to sale. $1900 OBO sounds like a pretty good deal to me, but give it a thorough look-over (check oil for a "coffee" color indicating a head problem, check for leaks and severity thereof) and ask him why he's selling, what he used it for, last trans service, diff service, oil change, brake job, etc.. Most people don't ask those questions and they reveal important information as long as they are being truthful.

And of course, after I've written this whole thing.... I realize that you are no newbie to the automotive world, so forgive the info you already knew! LOL. Good luck with it man, I hope it's a bad-***** Jeep and you get it for a good price!!!

Got my transmission serviced, new oil and filter. Added a qt of Lucas too, noticed it shifting pretty hard from 1-2, don't know of its normal or not, but hoping it will help.

To do:

- fix the 4wd
- fix the drivers door (wife broke yesterday)
- fix p/s cooler leak at hoses
- fix oil leak on front diff cover. Gonna see about building me some diff armor while I have it all apart.

Ha, well, maybe someday. For now, I'm gonna stick with the nice fuel mileage this thing has. If/when I buy another jeep for a dd, I might look into a 5.0 or 5.7 swap. This is gonna be my dd/light trail rig for a food while, just had a kid, so kinda outta money...
