Default New old guy.

I just joined not too long ago.
Been reading more than I care to mention.
(good knowledge here)

So... here is the background.
I knew I wanted a Cherokee but not the new ones. So when I found out that 1991~2001 had the H.O. engines, that sounded pretty good to me.
Then, more study time.
I see and have been told to stay away from 2000/2001 because of the head.
OK
More studying.
Finally got it narrowed down to '97~'99. Why? Well I noticed the dash layout changed for the better in '97. Not to mention almost all I've seen in that year range have all the comfort creatures I've been spoiled with for a while now. i.e. power windows/locks & modern heating controls.
Must be the getting old & lazy part in me.

Hopefully I'll be driving home a '97 I've got my eye on. If I miss that one it'll be back to the search mode again.

Anyway, now you guys are stuck with me.

Welcome to the forum. Although those 87-90 non-HO engines (renix) are still as good as 91-01 HO engines. You still made a right choice of choosing a Cherokee XJ.

Thanks for the welcome.
Hopefully I'll have a story to post later today in the general forum.
(fingers crossed for good news)

Well the '97 fell through.
But all was not lost.
Got me a 1999 Sport.
Under 200K (somewhat hard to find around here w/o dipping into your 401 account)

Needs a few things, like tires, shocks, windshield is cracked and of course the drivers seat cushion sucks. Not too bad, though.
I was going to add a small lift kit anyways so this is a great way to start.
Overall in great shape.

Anything that you replace/repair that is stock, goes in OEM XJ tech.

Anything that modifies over stock, goes in Modified XJ tech.

Any fabrication like building of bumpers/sliders etc from scratch, goes in fabrication.

Wanna show off your build progress? Build section.

Aftermarket electronics questions go in (GASP) aftermarket electrical systems, haha

General chat, in Cherokee Chat, and anything else in off topic.

I think you explained it better than the rules did.
