Default Hello from CLT,NC!

Hello, all! I just brought home a 1995 Cherokee, ex-police. Potential basket case...

I have been a Jeep fan for a while, owned and cherished a Scrambler for a while, first Cherokee. I just picked it up for barely over scrap price, clean fluids so far, PO stated daily driver until two weeks ago it lost spark. If I can ride the "I don't have a car" for another day I will troubleshoot the ignition system tomorrow and check back in.

So far:
No battery
PO diagnosed bad coil
Only drivers door functions correctly
Front drive shaft in the boot
New master cylinder in the boot.....?
Lots of wires leading nowhere
All trim around steering column and dash missing/in the back
Relay panel hanging by wires under dash

I read a little on the "police package" thread and see that I will have to go over the vehicle to see what is has vs. what was stock.

Will trade beer for shop talk.

Replaced Coil, Distro, cap, rotor, & wires. Started up, died when given gas. Assuming that the timing is off by a tooth. Reinstall distro tomorrow....

Clean the connectors on the engine sensors, clean the engine sensor grounds. And verify fuel pressure at the fuel rail.

X2 on this. Sounds like what I had when the fuel pressure regulator went out.

We've got a ton of people in the Charlotte area. I used to be until two years ago. Are you near the UNCC? If so I can get you in touch with some people.

Fuel is fine. After replacinf distro, cap, rotor, coil, & wires it cranked and runs well. Did oil change and new plugs yesterday. Oil loked like a prospectors dream and #5 plug was oily and had much metal shavings as well.

When I put it in D it does not start in 1st. 2nd or maybe even 3rd. If I throw it down manually it goes fine, though. When I change the tranny fluid and filter I will spray the solenoids down with cleaner and see if that helps.

I'd like to get it legal this week and after that start working towards a trail ride before all the leaves fall!

I must have had the distro off by a tooth or two. The first time I tried to take a short cut and slide it right in. The second time I turned the crank to #1 TDC...

Geez! Transmission cooler line failed yesterday. It came loose from the drivers side of the radiator. I was driving from work, goosed it to get out into traffic, and it started acting up before the first gas station. When I pulled in to get gas it wasn't shifting or even really engaging I think. Fluid everywhere. Instead of going to work today I'm going to the junk yard to pull a couple of those dorman sleeves and doing a filter change/fluid REPLACEMENT. If I'm lucky one of the junked cars will have a hose clamp setup instead...

Deleted the quick disconnect. Had to buy the parts, no luck at the junker. Yes, I am that cheap. Replaced the filter and fluid. Three or four of the pan bolts had stripped holes but so far it's not leaking. It seems to be back where I started with that shifting problem.
