Default Greetings.

Hello. New to the forum and hope to be soon the jeep community. I have been looking into getting a Jeep for a little while and like the Wrangler and Rubicon Unlimited, one: because I dig it, two: because of the extra cabin and cargo space. They are a little out of my price range however so maybe later. I have always liked the Cherokee and am looking to get a Grand Cherokee. I am looking in the '93-'96 area. The reason I dont have one yet is because I am on the fence about the auto trans in them as I have and seem to hear way too many stories about problems and failures. I am going to get the i6 and most likely the auto as the manual is not easy to find. So this brings me to a question. Or several for that matter. What kind of issues would be causing all the trouble I am hearing about? Is there a mileage to expect issues and what issues are common? How much is the usual repair and rebuild and is the rebuilt trans going to last a while or just go out again? I will definitely do some wheeling with it and plan on having a 3"-3.5" lift and 33's put on it if it doesnt already have them. I will otherwise leave it alone and have fun with it. Thanx for any input.
I should also mention it will be a DD as well as a weekend play rig.

On the engine and trans it depends on how well it was taken care of and what kind of abuse you plan on putting it though.. The 4.0L can easily take on 300,000+ miles.. Second, 33" tires on a 3" lift not recommended in my opinion. 4.5-6." for 33" with aggressive trimming on the 4.5" lift. On another note, Welcome from TEXAS...

Thanx for the welcome. Yah, 33's are a bit big. Not sure why I said that. Just use to that combo from my pick up trucks, with some fender trimming too. I am confident in the motor, but it seems to me that while stress levels and use and maintenance are definitely a very big factor in the life of any mechanical component, that the auto trans is very unforgiving if not to say that, from what I have learned so far, "crap". But thats why I hit up this forum, so I could get some input on issues yall have come across and help me know what to expect. I am very good to my vehicles and keep up on the care, so I know it will be in good hands with me, but I dont let em sit either. I use my stuff. The jeep, although I suspect will be driven "light" by some standards, will be no exception. Again, thanx for the response and any to come.
