I found this forum from a post on jeepforum.com. I bought my first XJ, a '96, secondhand from Sprint. It was basic, but I enjoyed it until repair was greatly exceeding its value. I sold it to buy a 2wd Ranger, thinking that the 4-door cab and versatility of the pickup as a daily driver would be a good move. I failed to understand the power of the force. A year later, I started tracking all the NC cities with Craigslist, autotrader, cars.com and any drive-by for sale Cherokees. I finally found the perfect one for me after just missing a couple of sales. Good ones go fast around here. Mine is a hunter green 2001 Classic with the Selec-Trac. Except for the driver's floor mat and a non-working ac, the XJ is perfect. Even the spare is full-size on a matching alloy rim. It came with all the records from day 1, including the window sticker, and came to me, the third owner, with 78,700 miles. It's good to be back.

Thanks, folks. I'm slowly fixing this one up. I've added a trailer hitch, changed the final drive oil, engine oil and next up, transmission cooler install and fluid change, transfer case and front diff fluid change. This jeep acquired 50,000 miles in the the first 3 years and less than 30,000 over the next 6 years with the second owner. I think lack of use can be as hard on a vehicle as too much sometimes. The hoses still look OK, but even though the tires have good tread, they're old and will be replaced sooner rather than later. I'm still happy to have it.
