Just curious - this isn't "bumping" the thread, I promise. I'd appreciate any input. I've had zero interest in this - either here at this forum or locally, and I'm trying to work out if I'm being greedy and asking too much, or if it's the inter-galactic mileage, or the admittedly shabby condition that's putting people off.
If it doesn't sell soon, I think I'll shove it through Virginia safety inspection and try to sell it as a cheap beater. I looked on cars.com to see what's for sale in my area in the bargain-basement-price-range. For anything that isn't being sold as repairable accident damage with a title to match, the cheapest cars with a year's safety inspection seem to be mid-90s sedans (Tauruses, Luminas) with 250,000+ miles - the prices for those seem to be $1400 to $1700.
I think the Jeep is a better car than those, but I also understand that asking prices do not equal value. You never know how much you can sell a car for....until you've sold it!
Hello Battle, thanks for your interest in the Jeep.
I'm sorry not to be able to provide a technical answer to your question - all I can tell you about the transfer case is "Whatever Jeep put in it back when it was built in 1991!"
We got the Jeep from my wife's uncle in 2005 when we lived in Chapel Hill, coincidentally enough. We used to get it serviced in those days by a guy called Kenny Martin out on the 54 towards Burlington because he was reckoned to be the "Jeep guy"' in those parts....a long time ago. Then we went to live in South Carolina, then Georgia, and took the Jeep with us. Then we brought it with us to Virginia a few years ago.
In all that time we've probably only had it in 4x4 on a handful of occasions - because we never took it off-road and there isn't much snow in Georgia. It's run all of its miles since we've owned it in 2wd.
My aim is to get this thing sold by October, because that's when I'll have to renew the registration. I really want shut of it by then. So it's on my mind to sell it, but there's still a few weeks - what I mean is, if you're interested it's not like it has to be sold this weekend! Honestly, you're the first person to show any real interest in it. The asking price is $2500 obo, cash. The car has a clean title.
If you are quite interested in it, and didn't want to drive all the way to Staunton, VA, I'd be happy to meet you somewhere south of Lynchburg on the 29 - save you a few miles. I can ask my wife to follow me so I can get home if you bought the Jeep.
I want this Jeep gone. $1500 cash, buyer collects from Staunton, Virginia. Vehicle recently checked by local mechanic, vehicle runs and drives perfectly. 297,000 miles, clean title, zero rust. PM me if interested. Thanks!
Hi, I would be seriously interested to come and pick it up tomorrow or Saturday. I can't PM, due to being new member to the forum. Can you message me? Thanks!
Hi CAThom, I tried to send you a message after adding you as a friend, but it said I couldn't because your account wasn't set up to receive messages or some such.
Can you respond to me through that, and I'll get back to you? As far as I'm concerned, as you're the first person to ask to buy it, it's yours if you want it. I can meet later on Friday afternoon or Saturday.
Sorry to ask you to go through Craigslist, I just didn't want to post my cellphone number on the open web. When you respond to the Craigslist ad let me know it it's you - "CAThom" ! Cheers!
SOLD! Thank you to CAThom, and good wishes to him upon his new purchase. I hope he gets a lot of fun out of this Jeep. Thank you, too, to everyone else who expressed an interest.
