ZJ overhead console in 97+ XJ
I've read and searched and still have some unsolved mysteries. I haven't gotten into the wiring aspect of it, I just want to know how to MOUNT the console itself to the XJ roof. I picked up a ZJ ohc with the mounting bracket at the junkyard today. It seems that up front, it is just the one screw into the roof holding it. Ok, perfect. Now for the back, I can't seem to find where this bracket is supposed to be. It doesn't go where the small dome light used to be. Any insight on this? Thanks

There are 3 dents in the bracket that mark it for xj roof cross member mounting.
Also, just so you know, you cannot use the trip computer from the ZJ overhead console as it uses a different CCD bus system which wont interact with the xj pcm.

From what it looked like from just holding the console up there, the XJ cross member is too far forward for the bracket to mount to it. I'm sure as you know the bracket mounts in the back by just sliding on those edges on the bracket, and the wedges that are on the console itself are towards the back of the console which is further back from the cross member.

The bracket will mount to the XJ's crossmember. I put the bracket on the console, then put tape on the front side of it coming around the outside of the console. So I could know where the front of the bracket was on top of the console, since you can't see it when it's up. Put a large patch of tape on the headliner to draw lines of where the tape on the console was, use that line to line up the front of the bracket to mount.
There's sheetmetal in the front header to put the one screw into, but make sure it shorter than the outer sheetmetal.
The rear tab also needs a small slot to go into, use the tape method for that also.
The only thing that will work is the lights. It also doesn't fit the profile of the headliner exactly, it will have a gap in back. I glassed mine up in back and trimmed it to fit the headliner, then retrimmed it.
