ZJ Downpipe on XJ?
Does anybody know if the 4.0 ZJ Walker 54448 downpipe can be made to fit on a 98 XJ (which calls for Walker 55277) with only minor modifications?
The ZJ pipe appears to be 2.5" all the way to the cat. The hanger is in a different location, but the shapes look otherwise very similar. The crossover bend appears closer to 90 degrees on the XJ pipe. AA lists the lengths as 38.25" for the XJ and 39" for the ZJ.
I searched and searched and found no mention of the ZJ pipe being used, but figured I'd ask before going down the route of piecing together my own downpipe.

Just a bit more searching, and I think I found my answer...
Looks like it'd be worth a try.

FYI, I messaged Walker today to confirm the dimensions of the pipe, and they stated the pipe is 2" diameter from the collector flange to the O2 bung, then it expands to 2.5", so isn't 2.5" throughout.
This is the pipe I used https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...=1820198&jsn=3 no dent and its cheap
Good luck with your endeavour many people will thank you if you are able to find something that fits well and is dentless

Only difference between the 91-95 and the 96+ is the usage of round bar on the newer models where it's supported at the rear of the transmission. Cut the bar short of the rubber bushing, weld a piece of flat bar to the underside of the round bar and it works fine on 91-95 models. The header flange is larger than stock; the nuts ride up on the flare in the middle (can be fixed with clipped washers) and the outside is larger than stock. The outlet on the Gibson header I'm running is closer to the block than normal so I had to grind a far amount from the outside of the flange to clear the oil pan lip but that's not entirely the fault of this part. Also, the outlet is enlarged to go over the female half on the catalytic converter instead of in of it. My catalytic converter is a regular ol' aftermarket replacement with pipe that's slightly thicker than regular exhaust pipe. I could have expanded the front pipe more to get it to slip over as intended but I just used a butt-joint band clamp instead of the overlap band clamps I generally use to ease disassembly so in a way, it's a bonus for me; Nothing easier to disassemble than butt joints... So not a perfect part but it's 2.5" mandrel bent low grade SS without a dimple for a decent price. I'm running a Walker 55014 tailpipe, which isn't SS as claimed, only the tip, but it is 2.5 and mandrel bent.

Just out of curiosity, is the routing identical to stock, or does it tuck up a bit (or hang lower) than OE?
Thanks again!

I'm probably not the best to judge due to the header; I had a Walker front pipe on there that I had to cut and reweld where it crosses under the bellhousing to get it to fit well. I'd go so far as to say that while you may be able to make a custom part that's tucked ever so closer to everything, for a production part, it's not going to get much closer than this.
