Definitely going to stir the pot on this one. It's simply pros and cons. And the all important personal preference. Of course everybody knows that XJs rule though.

What are you going to use it for? The ZJ would be a lot more roomy. You could also get a bigger engine...

I've owned both. As a DD the 5.2ZJ limited was the winner, XJ for trail use. They both had their good/bad points. I replaced the ZJ with a WJ and enjoy the ride/comfort. Nothing like a built up XJ going further up a trail than a CJ/YJ/TJ

I've had both also. IMO there is not really a best... It depends on the situation, DD or Trail rig. Tpyes of DD use and type of trail use. Both have their pluses and minuses. Over-all I'd say the XJ has the advantage off-road and the Grand has the advantage ON, especially with a V8. XJ can be had with the Corporate 8.25 rear, ZJ with D35 or aluminum D44, both inferior to the 8.25. ZJ is available with a V8 or the venerable 4.0 I6.

XJs are cheaper to mod / lift... and easier to find junk yard parts

i hate these kinda questions...we cant tell you which one is better...its up to you....

you may as well ask "which ones better, a ZJ, or a mustang GT 500 cobra"...its all opinion based....it depends on why you are buying one in the first place....

even if it is for a specific reason, you then have to ask youself, "well, would i like to have all four coils, or would i like to have leaf springs in the rear...do i want a 4-door or a 2-door bc ZJs dont come with 2-doors....do i want a manual or an auto?...bc only the first 2 years for the ZJ 93 and 94 were available with a standard tranny, but they are very hard to come by....yet, its fairly easy to find an XJ with a standard"

all those kinda question, you need to ask youself....we arent the ones buying it, it ultimately comes down to your decision.....sure we can tell you our opinions, but we cant tell you which one you would rather have....

go out and test drive a couple of each....see which you like more

the only thing i can really tell you that is an advantage for the XJ over the ZJ, is like some one else said, if you intend to lift it, its cheaper to lift since it has leafs in the rear and not coils all the way around like the ZJ...
