Default YJ Dana 30 in my 1990 XJ

I found this Dana Model 30 front axle with an Aussie Locker and 4.56 gears for $600 bucks. The axle is out of a 87 YJ. I need to know if it will be a bolt on install or a ***** of an install, or not possible at all. I have a 1990 XJ. Picture of the axle is attached.
Thanks.

you sure that's not a tj front the yj is a leaf sprung jeep if it is a tj it should be a bolt in but if it is a yj leaf axle you will have to put your control arm brackets and spring mounts on that axle

hope this helps and good luck

Not to mention its a CAD axle.
You could find a better front end.
No CAD and larger U joints.

I don't know what's up with that housing. Doesn't really look like a TJ axle, doesn't really look like a YJ axle either. Sounds like it has good internals (gears and locker) though. If it is a YJ axle, it'll be a high pinion unit and all the internals will swap into the high pinion housing that is currently in your XJ. That's probably the route that i would take...

well just looking at it i can tell you its not a YJ. its a coil over 4 link just like the XJ and has a HP so it should be fine.

^ This is a YJ axle.

^this is a XJ axle

What you have there looks to me like a YJ axle with custom 4 link brackets welded on. So it probably wont bolt into an XJ. The CAD thing isnt that important cause you can convert it to later model axle shafts, Might already have shafts in it idk.

I respectfully disagree. A CAD XJ axle will have the passenger side UCA mount cast into the CAD portion of the axle. That one has tabs welded onto the tube for the control arms. Also, the coil spring platforms are in front of the tubes. Never seen that before.

Default Yj

the guy tells me its from his YJ and he added coil springs. He is willing to take 300 for it so I am thinking of buying and switching gears and locker into mine. I dont think I can buy gears and locker for anywhere close to 300.

Thats what it looks like . It is a YJ axle with coil conversion. Without some fab work it will not bolt in.
Buy it for the gears and locker. Even if the gears are trashed, you will have a carrier and locker for when you get good gears. Remember you still have to regear the rear end BEFORE you can use 4WD.
