Talking XJ to Liberty disc brake swap.

Well, today I called my not so local U Pull it yard and asked if they had a 01-07 Liberty laying around. Now for the record I have been to SO MANY places and called more and its crazy how much they wanna sell a rear diff that wont bolt up to you. Also, forget about asking them to part the rear either cause its a mute point. Anyway I got lucky and found a Liberty at this yard so I went there and yanked every thing off with one stipulation, I had to put the rear back together. NO SWEAT I SAID, and did my thing. I have the full monty, E-brake cables for comparison to XJ/KK, calipers with soft and hard lines as assemblies, rotors and backing plates and studs as assemblies. All for $100 and it took 2.5 hrs to do in the freezing suck *** snowy weather. It was worth it!! Also the swaps for the 15" wheels as well so I can keep my stockers. I just wanna thank EVERYONE who shares info for our community. I would not have been able to get my rig together the CORRECT way if it wasn't for the threads on the swaps themselves. I dont believe that I have to include future photos and instructions on the swap but what I will do is solve the issue of the notorious E- brake cable by doing the homework and sharing to all. THANK YOU

Congrats on the swap. Love my ZJ rear discs. One of the best mods I've done. What problems are you having with the E-brake?

I will do so. As far as the E-brake cables the issue of running into cables to long or short for Ebrake function to work. Didnt a thread I read say someone had some issues? I read so many I cant recall at all who said it. I talked to Ryan at Teraflex and he claims the 66" long cable TeraFlex 4304171 - TeraFlex Jeep Emergency Brake Cable Kits, will fit the swap on the 8.25. Does anyone have these cables? what have others used, cause now Im lost somewhere on some info.

You said you have the e brake cables from the Liberty, they are suppose to be a direct swap.

I found that with the ZJ cables, I was able to use only the passenger side on my XJ, for the driver's side. For passenger, the ZJ one is very short. I ended up getting NAPA part #95064 which was more than long enough. I have working E-brake again!

You might be able to use the longer one from a grand in place of you short one.

You can also modify your existing XJ cables with some cable clamps. There's some writeup somewhere that shows how to do that.

That would be the most cost effective & easiest method. You already have cables, you know they fit & they are already installed. All you need to do is buy a pair of small cable clamps, loop the end around the e brake actuator arm & tighten down the clamp.

You can get both for less than $1.50, you just need to look around.

I did the swap with the Liberty E brake cables. One was long, but if you make a loop with it over the axle and tie it up with some zip ties, it's not a problem.
