Default XJ disc conversion e-brake cable help!!

Ok, so I got my ZJ disc brake conversion done, works great. I started looking into how to get the e-brakes set up, and read that Morris 4x4 had some for a good price, part numbers:

DBC-06 pass side
DBC-07 driver's side

So I ordered them and got them, then I ran into this:

The cables are the right length, but the free length is different, so it makes the cables just over 1" uneven when trying to put them both into the bracket that goes to the hand brake. There is no way I can adjust one or the other a a whole inch. Even not installed, they look like this:

So, after talking to the MFG through Morris 4x4 they pretty much said that's the way they all are and I must be doing something wrong. So am I? Or should I send them back and get my $$ back and order some Teraflex cables? Anyone who has done this let me know, I'm not going to just have no e-brake. Thanks

Nice to know.

They are specifically for a XJ but don't work.

I'd send them back & get a refund.Let them pay for return shipping.

There are some out there that SHOULD be correct.

I know right? First thing the guy from the MFG tells me is that it's because of my lift... I got pissed, then sent him a pic of them sitting on the ground. The next day they tell me there is nothing they can do and they are ALL like that in the warehouse.

I found a link on naxja about some cable I can get through NAPA auto, but they would take a few days to get here, and who knows if I can take them back if they don't work. Part numbers:

95064
95969

Cheaper than the ones I have now....

So,your lift made the cables a different length with them laying on the ground?

Lower you Jeep & see if that fixes the problem.LOL.

Thanks for the NAPA #'s & good luck.

Yea, they aren't in stock, so hopefully they work...

Crown Automotive is who makes the cables for Morris 4x4 just so everyone knows...

I'm sure you have checked this, but just trying to help out. Did you make sure the other end of the cable was not hanging up on something in the brake itself? Just a thought.

Yea, they don't actually go into the brake assy, the bracket they connect to is on the outside on the back. But yes, same issue even if the cables are not attached to the brakes and just the bracket to go to the hand brake.

I have the exact same issue wuth my teraflex cables right now. got them for the rear disc conversion with teraflex kit. Figured a manufacturer's product would play nice with each other. Mine is more exaggerated than that. almost 3in difference between cables. I got two different length cables for my 2000 xj because thats how they are stock, but the clevis ends are way off

I just modded the ends of my existing cables. Of course, I don't live in an area where my cables would need replacing as we don't have rust here.

I had the same issue. it must be a QC issue as mine was about half an inch different. I used a cable clamp from a hardware store as a spacer. It works perfectly fine. If you are **** you could try ordering a crap load of cables and pair 2 together then return the rest.

I think I am going to put a new ferrule/ stop on (technical term for ball end thing on cables). I have some hard copper and aluminum rods, and a hydraulic crimper.

I installed the disc brakes on my '01XJ last weekend and have been contemplating where and what to buy for the e-brake cables. Going to be following this thread as it's very good info. Just wondering why there is THAT much discrepancy between these cables... strange.

If your cables aren't rusted, just re-do the ends. It's quite simple.

Just picked mine up at my Port Huron address on Sat. Not putting them on till spring perches have been welded on.
Saw this thread and had to go out and look.
I think I am going to have the same problem.
To my way of thinking, because the two cable conduits are fixed at both ends, the cable stick outs should be identical.
I'm going to send these pictures to Morris 4X4 and reverence this thread and see what they say.

This is just the way I received them in a BIG box

This is the difference between the two when the other ends are tight against the collar.

That is a 2003 Liberty backing plate.
Springs are different and slide further over the loop.

Again the difference in the lengths of the stand out from the cable collet when pulled as far as they will go.
