Wj steering pump

Wj steering pump
Recently had replaced my steering pump with a wj 4.7 one. Everything worked great, swapped fittings and put in a cooler. But now it whines real bad when turning. I used the 1/2 return spout. I was thinking because I used the cooler the lines are too long and causing it cavitate? I didn't drill out my fitting but I'm going to as I've read people leaving it stock and having noise. Only gonna do 5/16. Also thought of getting rid of the cooler just to see. Any help would be appreciated. Really don't wanna have to go buy another stock xj pump.
