Rope is better in every single way- except for not caring about it. Rope needs to be cleaned of you get it dirty and needs to stay out of sunlight. It also can't be dragged over ****.

Most rope comes with a decent amount of chafe guard, mine did. And I'm mounting mine behind my front crossmember so I don't have to worry about sunlight

None, as yet, my 'new' '87 XJ is pretty stock and has PO issues I'm working on now.
If I mount the winch, it'll be mostly used to drag downed timber to my chainsaw...
I won't be going for serious rockcrawling, I have need of a reliable road vehicle that can be got into the boonies now and then, for real estate business. Currently using a Soob for that task.

I would love to have rope. It is stronger with a lighter weight and isn't as dangerous if it breaks but for me, I have to have cable. I use my winch for work. I use it for dragging logs up onto a trailer so that I can take them to the mill and sell them. it gets drug over logs, metal and all kinds of stuff. So, it depends on what you do (or plan on doing) with it.

A cable can be safe if you use a weighted cable blanket over the cable. And factor 55 makes a shackle mount end for the cable/rope which is a lot safer then the big metal hook most use.

refreshing the electrical system is always a great idea, regardless of whether or not you have a winch or accessories. clean up the grounds, make better ground wires, upgrade your battery to a red or yellow top, if you're planning on a winch and lighting id say yellow top. A higher amp alternator would be a good idea too although not completely necessary. You can also do the High Idle switch mod for when you're winching to keep the battery charging a bit better while under load.

I'm adding a second battery and a higher output alternator for my winch. Going with a cowl snorkel and putting the second battery where the factory air box is.
