Default Will these axles work?

I'm planning on buying these axles off of craigslist so I can put 35s or 36s on my xj, the axles are re geared (to 4.88) Dana 44 and Dana 30. I know they should fit my xj but does it matter what year they are from? I have a 2000 xj and the axles are from a 94 wrangler.

They will fit but most likely not be bolt in. 94 would be a YJ so stock they would be leaf spring under front and rear. You would have to do some fabrication to swap axle brackets.

not bolt in, you'll need to cut off all of the brackets front and rear. also, the YJ 30 is low pinion and is a disconnect housing IIRC. unless theyre cheap, not worth it.

YJ's actually a High Pinion D30. Swap in your 2000's axle shafts to benefit from the larger U joints, and get rid of the vacuum motor nonsense. The rear axle might not be bad but the front will need a lot of work for the coil buckets, shock mounts, track bar, and all the control arms. If the price is right I might nab the gears and look for a stock XJ D30 to build up

I'll prolly just get the Dana 44 if it matches up and I'll try to just get the gears out of the front

The D30 out of the YJ is high pinion and your 2000 model is low pinion so you can't swap the gears. Also you may want to find out what the D44 came out of since it wasn't offered in the YJ. Good bit of work for stock axles since you'd need all new brackets front and rear.

Does any Dana 44 axle bolt on to a 2000 xj rear or do they all need to be modified? If there are bolt on ones what vehicles would you find them on?

Sure. An XJ D44 will bolt up just fine (need new length DS though)

D44 was offered in 87-89 in the XJ with the metric ton package.

Next best bet would be an 8.25 out of a 97 and up XJ. It's the 29 spline version and close to D44 strength and a direct bolt in.

I'd rather have a 29 spline 8.25 than a 44a
