It really all depends on the condition of the vehicle - there is no definite answer. I have one that's lifted 1.5" without spacers (OME/Rancho springs) and it even has driveline vibes at certain speeds. I still have stock control arms but I swapped in aftermarket shocks because, well, why in the world would I want to keep stock height factory shocks anyways? If you're going to splurge, splurge on shocks.
Form over function never plays well in my book, but you do you I reckon.
Best advice I can give you is dont halfass anything.
100% realist scenario is that all kinds of things could break just trying to replace suspension parts. Depending on the condition of parts, previous owner "repairs", and the level of rust damage. All the shock bolts could snap off. All the leaf spring bolts could be a nightmare to deal with. The scary list goes on.
Your help is appreciated. These are 235/75r15 KO2s Just for around the hills 4 season use. Maybe a back road trip on occasion to dust the undercarriage.
So a 2-3 inch lift with springs and shocks is about all that I should need for a good utility vehicle.
Seems once you go above stock height results can vary among XJ's as far as any adverse handling, driveline vibes, etc goes. Below is a chart that recommends what parts to use for each lift or you take a chance at getting by with less.

That's the tire size that I run. It's pretty nice for a road-trip car that I can take down rutted, light-duty trails if need be. I still get about 20ish mpg on the highway too.

Perfect. This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks!
