i think you can just buy shock extenders to run on the 2in lift, but the 4in lift you will need new shocks. You might be able to buy shocks for the 4in and use them on the 2in lift without much trouble

Skyjacker sells shocks that are made for a 2" lift. I do not remember what size they are but they are made. I would say get new shocks just because it will give u a much better ride over the stock shocks.

yes,at 4.5" of lift you would need new shocks,also what do you mean by basic lift? because you may need more parts after going another 2".. and what kind of jeep?
