I found a used arb bumper and now Im looking to put a winch on it. im wondering if I could fit a 12,000 pound winch in it. if anyone has pics of how they mounted theirs that would be great to since I've never done this before.

Does the bumper have a spot for the winch already? or are you trying to get one in there?
most winches have the same mounting bolt pattern, you just need to find out which pattern you have and get your favorite winch that has that pattern.

with the arb, you just have to pull the winch apart and reassemble it so the mounting feet are facing forward as opposed to down where all winches come from factory.

after looking at my bumper what your saying makes sense. basically I have to turn the winch sideways so that the feet line up with the front plate of the bumper where the holes are. do you think that by doing this it would make it difficult to get to the release on the winch? does anyone know what types of winches are recommended for this bumper?

i found this. http://store.arbusa.com/Warn-Install...050-P3354.aspx
it may be easier than taking the winch apart. it says it's for a warn winch, but i'm sure it will fit most others too.

There are, for lack of a better term, bulkheads inside the bumper that limit the width of the winch that will fit. I have the pre-97 Bullbar so the bulkheads are what the mounting horns bolt to. I believe that on the 97+ bullbars the mounts are a single piece design. Either way, you will not fit a 12K winch into the bullbar without a fair amount of fabrication because the bullbar was designed to fit around a Warn M8000 or M9000 winch. Note that these are not the packages with the integrated solenoid.
In most cases the winch mount bolt patterns are pretty standardized so that you do not have to use a Warn winch, you can use any brand so long as the dimensions of the winch inself is equal to or smaller that the Warn M-series winch. Note: I have the M9000 in mine and it is VERY tight in there.
In order to mount the winch you don't have to completely disassemble the winch, you only need to CLOCK the clutch side of the winch 90 degrees CCW. this is done by removing the capscrews that hold the clutch pod on the main body of the winch, pulling it out SLIGHTLY - just eough to disengage the gears - rotating the clutch pod and then putting it back together.
The point of this is so that when the winch is installed (with the mounting bolts through the front of the bumper) the clutch handle points DOWN so it can be accessed from under the bumper. Not the ideal position but this is how the winch is supposed to be installed. If I had to do it over again I'd probably explore the possibility of cutting a hole in the top of the bumper and rotating the clutch 90 degrees the other way so that it is accessible from the TOP of the bumper.

This helps a lot. thank you. I will have to consider what you said about cutting a hole on top for the clutch handle.

I have had the regular WARN units installed without a problem, provided they have a solenoid box that can be separated. Have the XRC x20 now, without an issue..
