Default What Gears for 33's

Hey so i'm putting 33's on my 2001 xj and i'm not sure what gear I should put in it. I don't want my gas to go down too much. so I was looking and 4.10's or 4.56's which would be better? Thanks for any info you can give me.

Yeah I was planning on just going 4.10's but then a few people at the 4x4 stores told me to go with 4.56's and that it wouldn't effect my MPG at all and could make it a little better cause it would have to struggle to get moving. Not sure how correct this is.

Kinda depends on how you drive. If its all city, it may indeed improve. But since it shifts your RPM range up, at freeway speed your motor will be spinning faster, so typically brings MPGs down.

Do you ever plan on going bigger than 33" tires?

If so, 4.56's may indeed be the way to go. No sense in buying 2 gear sets and doing the work twice.

agreed

as for the highway you want to be running around 2500 rpm for the best mpg...

33s and 4.10 with an auto should just about be right on target

but Gee oh Dee is right, if you plan to go to bigger tires at any time you might as well do 4.56 gears now and not waste your money later
