What Gears for 33's
4.88s.
maybe 4.56s if you think you will never go up to 35s.
i ran 4.88s with my auto for a long time with 33s.
i never thought id go to 35s. now im on 35s and witht he dana 30 could stuff 5.29s....
the 4.56s will allow lower freeway RPMs,
but i never had a problem with 33s, even 31s, on 4.88s. the extra gearing makes it easier for the XJ to pull all the gear, skids, sliders, bumpers, stiffeners, heavier tires/rims, roofrack, etc that was not intended by jeep engineers. the deeper gears cant possibly hurt.
why not make it easier on your XJ. and there is no substitute for lower gears on the trail.
plus the rule of thumb is re-gear once.
4.10s youll be kicking yourself and with 4.56s youll wish you had 4.88s if you wheel at all...

youll regret 4.10s.
everyone i wheel with that run 4.56s all wish they had 4.88s for the ones who paid striaght up for gears+install.
if you get teh 4.10 axles from a 4 banger for nothing go right for it

go 4.56...I ran 4.10's and also 4.56 on 32's and the 4.56 gears are much better, especially if you are running 33's.
You have to consider more than the math. It's true that 4.10's will get you back to stock gearing in terms of the tire size vs diff gearing, but your 33's are much heavier than stock tires and need the additional gear depth to accelerate them.
Believe it or not, I got better mileage with 4.56's than 4.10's with the same 32" tires. Being geared lower, it doesn't have to downshift nearly as often and remains in a higher gear with plenty of torque to pull itself down the highway.
I plan to go to 33's with my next tire swap and now wish I had 4.88's...something to think about.

You will love the extra power of 4.56 on the trails. It's definately the way to go if you like to wheel, even if you just go every other weekend.

So thanks to Frankz I used this site to calculate the gear ratio. http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html
From what I understand. 4.10 will put it back to stock but 4.56 will give me a little more power.
