Default What can i run?

Guys, I'm redoing my suspension and driveline and want to run 37's. Question is will my D30 hold up, street only, no wheeling, until I buy my new axle. Also will a D44 and my 29 spline 8.25 hold up to hard wheeling 37's or do I need to go with D60's front and rear? If I need D60's I might go with 35's instead.

37s are at the upper limits of a 44 and a bit past the 8.25. I run 38s on my front 44 with chromos and beat on it pretty good and unfortuniately I can't say it's held up. Currently the pass tube is bent and I've broken one shaft and a couple of u joints.

I would say for the 37"s go with the d60s. The 35"s you could go with the d44 and 8.25, but beef them up.

Hmm, well I'm thinking I'm going to just go with D44 and 35's, and alloy shafts front and rear. Thanks guys.

hp44 with moleys will hold a 38 locked fine, just get good u joints and a 9 in or 60 (both are cheap around $150) will hold 37s. I have a freind that has a hp 44 welded with chromos and a full width 8.8 with a detriot and stock shafts on cut 38sxs and was fine just watch the skinny pedal at pinch points

OK it really depends on your wheeling style, and how your drive, and how your rig is equipped.

If properly geared I say yes it will hold up.. as long as you dont put the front axle in a bind situation.

I am running HPd44 with ARB, chromo shafts and 300M joints... on 36 steel beadlocks, and have had no issues. Also running a f9" with dutchman shafts. I am geared stupid low though. I have 5.13's and a doubler. My double low low ratio is 142.3 to 1, and my low ratio is 52.3 to 1. IN single low.. I am a lot easier on it then when I am in double low.

To answer your first question...I wouldn't. Why would you NEED to run the 37s on the street anyways?

No no, I'm not planning on running 37's on the street only, I was just saying that until I upgraded everything else I wouldn't be putting them on the trail. My xj is my DD, since I only drive 4 miles to work, any further than that and I drive my JK, but it's mainly my trial rig. So the tires don't get a ton of road use, mainly to and from the trail until I get my tow rig.

When you start talking D60's you need to looking at 39"+ tires or else you'll be digging the differential a lot.

Get a D44/9" set out of a late 70's F-150.

Yeah but those would be full widths and I would prefer to keep close to stock width, besides backspacing of course. And I don't want to ruin the axles by trying to trim them myself, would an 8.8 be able to handle 37's you think?
