Default What axle

hey guys i'm new here. I'm looking at buying a 1997 cherokee 2wd from a buddy of mine. however i want to convert it to 4wd so i can take it wheeling around where i live in northern illinois. My main question is what axle should i look to get for in the front? i want to be able to make it my dd and a capable weekend wheeler. And also, what other parts will i need to get a hold of to complete this conversion? if this has already been asked then send me a link to the thread because ive been searching and maybe i just overlooked it somewhere. thanks in advance

any year dana 30 out of an XJ will work and will be direct bolt in, but you'll want to find one w/o vacuum disconnect and with 297x u-joints.

you will also need a 4wd tranny - AW4- automatic, AX-15 - manual, and a transfer case - np231 - part time 4wd, or an np242 - full time 4wd.

you'll need a front driveshaft as well, maybe some other things that im forgetting.
