I'm doing some research on what cars in the junkyard I'm going to grab parts from to finish my hack n tap SYE and I noticed that the 8.25 uses a 27 spline like the 231 output. I don't want a flat flange on my TC output so this fits the bill perfectly since I'm swapping out my 8.25 for an 8.8 anyway (bad pinion bearing)
Has anyone done this before?

I was at the junkyard today and they had an xj without the 8.25 pinion yoke bolted on and with a rough measurement it is the same diameter as the TC rear output. So things are looking good so far.
Dude, how do you think people have figured out stuff in the past? The fact that no one has mentioned using the 8.25 yoke tells me that no one has even thought about it. I doubt anyone has noticed it is 27 spline. Thanks for your "input"
If it was that simple, you would've come across 1000's who have done already it in your "research."

someone tried and it does not fit...
just get a hack n tap that has a FIXED YOKE style output (no reason to get the flange style)
then get a front drive shaft from out of a XJ 4.0 automatic from the bone yard, pull it yourself places usually want $20-$40

But as far as figuring things out in the past... there's been PLENTY of time for people to figure this kind of stuff out. Do you really think people are unaware the 8.25 has a 27 spline? Dealing with a platform where there are a lot of hacked/DIY/shortcut "mods" done, HnT SYE's wouldn't be purchased if it was that easy to make your own.
Maybe you're newer to cherokees.... but generally, something that seems this easy and simple would've been done after 20+ years of their existence.

well considering i surprised a group of people on this and jeep forum saying that stock ranger shackles were a little longer than MJ ones i find that to be false. sometimes just cause some people have not looked at it doesn't mean it wont work. the 8.25 may not work who knows until people try.

Exactly. Just grab a 8.25 yoke from the junk yard for a few bucks, take off your rear driveshaft and see if it goes on? If it doesnt, it doesnt work, If it does, see what you can do with it from there.
