Default Tune or no tune?? Help!!!

So I got a 2000 xj. Im buying a new long block. The company I'm getting it from offers aftermarket cams. I was thinking about getting a mild one a little bigger then stock. But I don't know if I need a tune or not... anyone got an ideas on this matter?

Why not ask the company, see what they reccomend? I'm guessing with a very mild cam you won't need a tune, but I could be mistaken.

tune? like a programmer?

the 4.0 can handle a mild cam no problem. don't even need stiffer valve springs until you get into big lift/duration cams. I'd definitely work on air flow to take advantage of that cam though. intake/exhaust for sure

I also have the Thor cowl induction intake already. Do you think that's enough for the intake side of things?

yep, that should do it. throttle body spacer would be the only other thing on the intake side you could do. you'll fine mixed reviews on whether or not it will help. When you start opening things up, its definitely a restrictive point.

Boring a throttle body opens it up. A spacer just adds an inch between the throttle body and intake nothing more.

Still, spacers do NOTHING. Waste of money and time.

OP FWIW, I have a 4.6 stroker, specs as follows:
Bored 30 Over
4.2 Crank
4.2 Connecting rods
Melling High Volume Oil Pump
.020 King main bearings
.010 King Connecting Rod Bearings
.030 Silvolite Pistons
.030 Hastings Piston Rings
King Cam Bearings
Elgin Performance Cam
Johnson Hydraulic Lifters
Engine Pro Timing Chain set
Fresh Head with new valves and valve springs
All new gaskets (No oil Leaks).
Venom 25 LB fuel injectors
Gibson Stainless steel ceramic coated header

I have done nothing to the computer and no issues.

Spacer does literally nothing is what I'm trying to get across. They are nothing but misinformation.
