TSL super swampers
MERRY CHRISTMAS.... i just stumbled upon a guy selling 33" TSL super swampers with rims online for cheap... I know the tires are supposed to be great for offroad but i was wondering how bad they are onroad? I do not mind some bad characteristics, I just dont want to hate driving it everyday (My xj is my transportation vehicle to school/work)... so if i can just get some imput i would be very happy...thanks for the help

33 tsl will be fine as a DD just do not expect tire life/ride like mild AT ,but in size 33 they are pretty streetable...infact the bias tsl ran well on my xj up to 70mph with un-balance 38x12.5 and 39.5 x 15 ...now 39.5 boggers...lol...even with equal anything above 50 is out of balance ,but I don't mind it since I only drive it for fun .

I'm assuming they are the cheaper Bias ply tires and not radials correct?
I've run 36" and 39" Swampers on mine and my wife's 79 Broncos in the past and didn't have any problems. One exception. Winter. They aren't to fun to drive on at highway speeds in snowy and icy conditions unless you call fun having your rear end kick out to the side on overpasses. They could benefit from some siping.
They work great any other time and have a very distinct "howl" at speed.

if they are cheap scoop them up. just make sure you find yourself a spare tire to match in case you need to replace one. Sometimes the tire size might not be available and you have to wait a day or two for shipping to get it replaced.

From what I've gathered, you do not want TSLs for a daily driven machine. They are off-road phenomenal tires in all conditions, but wear quickly and handle like crap on pavement.
Here in PA there are a lot of sod-like wilderness trails with minimal rocks. There are some, but nothing like say Moab. But around here, everyone that runs them for trail buggies loves them. After hearing so many good reviews about them from local wheelers, I bought a set of Q78-15LT (35.5 x 10.8 - 15) for my TJ. They will be here between Xmas and the new year.

JP Magazine rated them very high for everything but road and ice. I think deep wet snow is what you want when running them. I could be mistaken though. A buddy of mine got a set of 34x9.50s with a chevy k2500 with a 454 and smoked a new duramax in a tug of war in 2wd. He didn't even spin.
All tires have their place and in my opinion super swampers are THE tire until you get to the highway. They howl and I think his chunked a little bit. I'm going off of research not experience btw.

Swampers dont last on the road at all. If you are daily driving on them you will get about a year out of them before they are completely cashed.

This is the truth ...33's tsl will handle fine and make no more noise than a bfg mud terrain ,but they will only last tops 15-20k road miles .

pavement life is short with these. i had iroks, boggers and tsls, all very good wheeling tire. horrible pavement life. i had the iroks and tsls on a 79 bronco and in winter iroks hands down better than the ice skate tsls. but irocks have much more siping. just trying it out for the price you cant loose. nice weather in three months you stand to make a hundo or so if the are in good shape in april may when it is good and warm and everyone has the offroad bug. i vote buy and see if yo can handle it , if not sit on them few months and sell make some bucks.

I see a lot of people saying that tsls don't last long on the road, but I have had some good experiences with them. The first set was bias 33 12.50 15 on 10" rims on a full size chevy they lasted 80,000 miles. The 2nd set was radial 30 9.50 15 on fastory s10 rims that lasted 60,000 miles. Both sets was 75% hwy miles.
