Transmission conversion
Today my trans blew up, where most see this as a problem, i see an opportunity. I have been thinking about converting my auto trans to a manual. so know i have a chance to fill the whole my trusted auto left in the center of my jeep with a good manual. Has anyone done this or seen it done? Or am i crazy and it cant be done?

Yes, I have. It was the chrysler 904 to T4 swap, but it goes the same. Plus I have gone the other way now too. Anyway, you can get all the parts at a wrecking yard, or better yet find a good donor rig. You will need the tranny of your chouce, bell housing, fly wheel, pressure plate and clutch, slave cylinder and hydraulic line, master cylinder and pedal assembly. If you want the cruise to work, you need the extra switch for the clutch pedal. You will also need the tranny mount plate and rubber mount. You will also want the front and rear dirve line as they will probably be different lengths that what yo have now. That will be cheaper than having them resized. Don't forget the console parts.
Good luck

I agree with 4.3 xj,but will add that take your time and find an ax-15,stay away from the ax-5 or pugeot tranys. The ax-15 was being installed in 89s and beyond, there is small differences in how they look so do some reaserch. Also you will find the brackets under the dash and mounting holes for trany already in place. all you need is to drill the holes in the firewall for the slave cylinder resevoir.

You will need a pilot bushing as well as the auto had none in the end of the crankshaft. Different year AX15s had different sized pilot shafts on the tranny so they need to match the year that the tranny is donated from.
