Anyone had any experience mounting a SuperMatic™ 10L90-E using the adapter plate for the 4.0?

Why a GM 10 speed? Every Camaro/Corvette owner hates them and the AW4 is as good as it gets for 4 speed automatics.

A lot of work to put a worse transmission in.

OK, so other than the expensive price, why is it worse? Please be specific. You must have personal experience and if so please be specific.

I think you would be happier with the 6L80 or the 8L90. I think the 10 speed hunts too much.

The 10 speed is actually a great transmission. The issue is getting it to work with a stand alone controller. As far as I know, they dont make those just yet.

More expensive to buy and fix, heavier, and not as durable.

and wayyy more complicated.

Unless you have money/time to spend and you absolutely cannot live without doing this swap, i cant think of any reason to do it.

With that said, go for it and post pictures and every detail you can.

Trans-dapt, Novak and the like would be a good resource for adapters. give them a buzz about your interests. Maybe they have something. Let us know.

It was actually the chevy 8 speed trans from a few years ago that had the torque converter/shuttering problem that ended up with a TSB for the fix.. The 10 speed is the improved unit and shifts quicker than anyone could possibly row the gears with a manual {but the manual is still more fun from driver interaction IMO}...But still way too many gears and huge size for an XJ...

I'm waiting to see what the OP found out in his research.
