Wow lots of crazy info in here..
I'll assume you have the 231 transfercase. If you don't, then a Hack n' Tap will be your best route.
Since you're only at a 3.5", I think you're alright without a SYE. Setting proper pinion angles will be the best idea before doing a drop. If you need to lessen the angle your drive shaft is at, then a drop would be necessary.
This video here will give you a good idea what is going on with your Jeep.
This thread here will give you detailed info. You can buy some axles shims at Iron Rock Off-road. They have been the cheapest prices for steel shims I've found. I'm at ~5" and I get next to no vibrations.

Just do as Duma said a way back and adjust the linkage FIRST! No cost, easy to do and most likely will cure the problem for you.
FYI I do have an SYE now at 4 1/2" but used a TC Drop kit at 3" had the same linkage problems when the 3" lift was done with the drop.

5" and no SYE nothing most would suggest, you shouldn't have any vibrations at all. I have an SYE and still run shims in mine they are not a cure all.

You get vibrations from your driveline running in an ellipse or you're actually hitting the yokes with your drive line from the angle. Shims will correct that if you set it up properly. You more and likely will have to shim for either route you go. I'm not arguing against a SYE by any means. It's the better route with an increased drive line angles. Just people recommend a TC drop when that won't fix the vibrations 99% of the time.Originally Posted by Fred/N0AZZ

There are a lot of variables here though. The 242 TC gives you less length between the axle and the output shaft yoke, which results in a steeper angle that can't be corrected using the stock slip shaft. The 8.25's yoke sticks out further than the D35 which also increases the angle. The reason I'm getting away with that amount of lift and no SYE is that I have the 231 & D35 rear (furthest distance between output shaft and rear yoke).
