The diameters white pvc that I use is sold in 2 3 4 5 6 and so on those are the INSIDE DIAMETER measurements and the filter I have is made to go around a 3inch od pipe and i have to force it in the INSIDE of the and there's no way in Hell it'll fit on the outside. As far as rubbing I haven't noticed an issue with it so far
Wanna know something else that sucks?
I can't spin my inlet elbow around.
I have a Renix TB. Its a "one way only" rubber elbow. Its made so it covers part of the IAC.
I'm going to have to switch to an HO TB so I can have a spinable TB elbow.

The "pre-filter" I have from amsoil is a pretty sweet product- it is water resistant, so water drops bead off it. Also it keeps me from having to clean the filter so often (used to be dirty and covered in dust anytime I went offroad).

Another product I am considering using is an aem air bypass valve like seen below.

It basically serves as a safegaurd against water. If any water enters air intake cone, it immediately starts taking air in from the valve instead of the cone filter. The only thing is that to make the valve useful you would have to have it at a higher point than your cone filter which might be difficult to do.

This is the section of my header panel I cut out for the ram air.

Doesnt look very open, but its getting a lot better/cooler air (at speeds) than it was!

On my 92 xj i have the same K&N as the earlier post pics but have a 62 mm TB. I also had the spacer with all the same and the hood would not close Hence the scoop and a hole cut in hood. I have taken the spacer off and my mileage has pick up and it seems to drive better. I think the spacer choked it down. A header is next.

already posted this a few times, but here it is again
btw, trunk seals work magic for the seal to the hood. and street signs make awesome heat shields
made mine with some tin snips, a grinder, and a little time. used pvc for the pipe, and a little black disposing made it all fit together

ohh and there arent any metal shavings on the filter, it was put in after i cut the hole next to the air dam behind the headlight. I could immediately feel the power difference, maybe its because mines a little 4 banger
