Default Toggle switch Alternator??

Hi, I have a 89 jeep cherokee xj 4.0 straight 6.

And My alternator isnt turning on, on its own.
So how can i go about hooking up my own toggle switch to Turn it on, on my own? because i dont have the time to go through all of the wiring right now.

It is a Brand new alternator and a battery,

I have two wires on the pigtail to the alternator yellow and like Brown and black or (orange and black its a off color)

I'm not familiar with that year of XJ, but you should confirm its wired up and confirm its working before trying to rig it up. Most of the big box parts places will test an alternator for free.

You must have battery voltage at the stud on the back of the alternator even with the key off and voltage from the igniton switch with it in the "on" position at the yellow wire in the two-wire plug in order for the alternator to charge.

at the stud it was 0.

at the yellow wire with it on was 10.38

and at the Control module it was 10.38 also?

so i am wondering if maybe the wire from the alternator to the Control module thing is bad?

There ya go. No continuity from the alternator to the battery.

One way to find out. Check the continuity of the wire from the alternator stud to the relay the wire attaches to.

The old Renix XJs don't use a fuse. It's all dependent on having battery voltage to the stud and switched 12 volts at the yellow/exciter wire.

I left the dealership in October of 1992, after working there as Parts Manager and then as Service Manager/Shop Foreman since 1980. Stuck on the old Renix Jeeps. Had 13 Comanches as demos and got to special order every one of them. The good old days.....
