I have a 1988 XJ Laredo, 4.0L I6 Renix w/ 154,000 miles. My current engine has an abhorrent amount of blow-by (yet for some reason, I don't have grey smoke coming out of my exhaust, it all just goes into my air box through the PCV valve located on the front of the valve cover), low power, consistent bogging down at highway speeds (then followed by it dying and having to re-start the engine), stalling, and more. Even more problems with rough shifting, sometimes not even shifting (most often from 2nd to 3rd gear, sometimes even 3rd to 4th).

I plan on buying a stroked 4.7L or building one on my own. I understand putting more power into an engine creates a new "weakest link". Whether that be the driveshaft, transmission, or something else. What all should I replace/upgrade if and when I put the stroker into my XJ?

So far I've heard that I should add:
1.) Quality cat back exhaust
2.) Slip yoke eliminator
3.) Double cardan rear drive shaft
4.) Positive rear differential

I have very little idea what any of the previously listed are, or what they do. I'm learning as much as I can as fast as I can. Any suggestions on what else I should add along with the stroker engine to make sure my Jeep doesn't break under all that power? Thanks.

This. Been running a 4.6 for several years now and it's a daily driver. Run it on road like grandma, then you can run it offroad like grandpa haha

Cruiser, even if I go 4-Wheelin' it should be okay as of now? I never planned on racing it or anything, I just need it to get me to work and be able to take me on a 600 mile road trip cruising at 75-80 MPH every now and then. That shouldn't be a problem, correct?
