So.... you drove over a pile of smaller unstable rocks. While I get that stacking is needed sometimes, how you do it can make a big difference.

Why not just get some plates of steel, an oil pan from the JY, and drill holes in the steel and plug weld it to the pan? I'm not sure the thickness and I'm still fairly new to welding but it seems to me that would be pretty easy to do.

Because then when u land on it, the sides of oil pan is weakest and will be crushed by the thicker steel pushing up.

Best and safest way is to get a skid.

Yes, but now I have the Currie HD steering and can get bigger tires to get stuck on even bigger rocks! Thanks guys (and Gals) for the input.

PS. And thanks again to the unknown wheelers at HH who straitened my stock steering so I could get back to G-ville. And, no, no extra tire wear after a couple of months of driving!!! Strait but sooo weak. Oil pan smashed up but no leaks (thank you LORD). Don't know how the oil pump can still work!??

I guess you didn't read the " unseen " part of my post. And it's so good to hear that you've never made a mistake…..LOL…..even in comp.! Did you win? LOL

By the way, if you wheel another 55 years without denting your oil pan, you win!!! LOL Kids!
