Here In S.F. people dont drill the tank they just cut the rubber filler hose to the tank and siphon out the gas that way..a buddy of mine works for budget truck rental and he tells me people do that every weekend and the owner is too cheap to hire security its also been on the local news along with stealing the catalytic converters. any thing bolted down and much of any thing else even wire off of live telephone poles....WTF!

i read on here what someone did was they had a jerry can mounted to the back, filled with a 1/3 diesel, 1/3 water, and 1/3 sugar could try that, leave it right by ur xj like u forgot it.

Have you ever tried to drill through the carpet and the underliner in your XJ's floor? That stuff wraps and grabs the bit until the driver binds up. You might just run some of that mat between the heat shield and the tank. Just an idea... I don't know how heat resistant that stuff is...
