Default Theft-proofing an XJ gas tank?

Hi everyone, I'm using my girlfriend's profile, so I'm sorry if this thread exists somewhere already - I had no luck with the search tool. Anyway, our town has had a problem with people drilling through Jeep gas tanks recently (Ford owners, I'm guessing), and we'd like to protect ours. Apparently it's illegal to put peoples' heads on pikes next to your driveway, so I need to find what hippies call a "peaceful" solution.

At first I was thinking of a 1/2-inch or better steel shield, but that might be costly and a pain to build into the undercarriage. And while I am interested in that rat poison that absorbs into skin, it could backfire. Any ideas? Thank you, I appreciate your help.

Run a fuel cell in the trunk? Or even a portable fuel tank for an outboard motor rigged up. Haha
If they have the right drill bits they will still get through a plate, maybe you either need some sort of awesome (and heavy) armor, or just think about relocating your fuel tank temporarily to somewhere inside the vehicle, where it can at least be locked up and concealed.

$50 dollar security camera, help the whole town. Hunters use hunting cams to spit deer, strap it to the tree get a nice pic of the A-whole.... OR.... Bear traps....

I like the fuel cell idea, but I can't think of where I could put it that wouldn't keep her from using the Jeep how she likes to. If it were mine, I'd have no problem bolting that thing down in the center of the cargo area lol.

is it just jeep's or this dude drilling tanks for fun.... is he or she (not likely she) atleast taking the gas? I hate ppl that f^ck with other's rides. Well spent money doesn't deserve to get F'ed with. Id rather take a intruder in my house... tho they'd get a big 12 guage hole in them

The camera idea is great. Also, go up to the police station and ask them to patrol your neighborhood frequently at night due to "suspicion of break ins" or something. Buying a german shepard, rottweiler, pittbull, or any other guard dog is also a good investment.

As far as equipping your Jeep with armor, you may be able to throw 1/2 inch HARDENED plate on there. It'll only slow them down though.

If they really wanted your gas, they could just stick a hose down the filler neck and siphon out.

ol backwoods trick with a 12g shell and a rat trap. worked well enough to keep people away from moonshine stills.

The police in our town blow. They sat around making jokes for hours the night my sister got kidnapped, when they had an idea of where she was. Don't move to Colorado Springs. This place is going downhill like a train with no brakes. The thieves take the gas, but they usually destroy your fuel pump when they drill. FN Jeep's been making some money, lol.

We park our cars to where we can cover the driver's area and the gas caps from any window on the front of my house - but people have even been doing this at Wal-Mart, and it's getting ridiculous.

Lol I think it'd be funny to chain them up in my basement and make them think some Pulp Fiction stuff's about to happen. Or sell them into the slave trade.

Bait the f****r, leave some gas cans or something in the unlocked trunk. Beat his *** and leave him cuffed to a telephone pole outside the local doughnut shop soaked in gas. The cops will find him then...

Lol I wonder how much gas they'd want after that. I guess I'll just try to find an aftermarket shield for it or maybe modify a skid plate and hope that works.

what you should do is buy a junker put something in the tank so when they steal it if they use it it will ruin their car. or fill the tank with concrete.

also if you put it under pressure so when they drill into it itll explode on them and put really good red or blue dye.

those are just some crazy ideas.
