I did the np203/np205 doubler with the lomax 3-1 gears in the 205 using my dodge 203 & 205.
My total cost per my receipt was:
$1095 Lomax 3-1 kit for the 205
$169 NP205 rebuild kit
$99 Range box rebuild (203)
$699 NP203-NP205 adapter plate/kit
$265 Triple shifters
Total cost was $2327.
or about 60% of what an Atlas was when I priced it all out.
But anyway, I don't care, just suggesting options that are available for the 205 gearing.
I also went this way because it was all cast iron, and was going to reside behind 750 hp.

My suggestion related to an XJ/MJ largely within the scope of what the OP wanted. Very few XJ/MJ owners run that much HP, and the OP is one of them. Also, if you're running an entirely different drivetrain, then some of the other detractors of the Lomax are moot. As in, most guys aren't interested in going to a passenger drop front axle, nor do they have a transmission that any NP203/205 will natively bolt to.
I have about $1400 into my Ecobox/NP205, that's in Canadian funds too. I bet it would hold those levels of HP just fine too, save for it has a 21 spline input since it's behind a Renix AW4. I have a very comparable final drive ratio, and a lower overall weight, and the thing is actually driver drop so it works with typical Jeep axles.
Ultimately I think the fact that you can't buy the Lowmax anymore really makes the whole thing pretty moot. If I found one used for cheap, sure I'd consider it, but that goes for anything that could be found used for cheap.

Don't know....there is no date on the receipt, but it's well over 10 yrs ago. maybe even pushing 15 ???
and list price is for those who don't know who to call...........
That was the minimum HP level too btw, but I never finished engine or the rig, and sold all the parts off.
On a side note, the gears in the 205 were bigger than the atlas at the time, may still be, who knows.
