You could have used a front ds out of a grand Cherokee with the 249 t case those are about 34" collapsed. I'm going to have to figure this all out as well... Only with 6.5" I'm almost certainly going to have to get one from a ZJ. Will most likely be a PITA to find since most came with that CV style, not the double cardon.

Grabbed a gc Driveshaft today. Measured three different ones and compared them all to a stock Cherokee one. All three were shorter then the regular Cherokee front by a half inch or so fully compressed. Fully extended they were about a inch and a half longer. Kind of contradicts what that chart says. Anyhow the gc shaft works good giving me almost two inches of shaft with the tires off the ground before it would come apart.
And yes I know the pinion angle is off, haven't changed it yet.

There is a boot that goes over that. And at stock height without the boot on the grand Cherokee there is a tiny amount of splines showing. I feel safer here knowing I'm not bottoming out and potentially damaging the tc or rear end. If the Driveshaft breaks so be it. Only a trail rig.
I plan on getting a shaft made when the funding is right, but at this time it's not in the budget.

Well I had it off and beating it with a hammer i was unable to separate it any further. Just wanted someone else's input. Thanks though.

Got my Sye on. Picked my front Driveshaft up from junkyard. Put it on the rear and it seems to be fully extended at ride height. Rough country 3 inch leafs with extended shackles so I'm guessing 4-4.5in lift. Driveshaft fully extended eye to eye measures around 35 1/4.
231 transfer. 4.0 auto c8.25.
Am I missing something or is this just an odd happening.

The way this shaft is there are splines showing until it is completely bottomed out. As soon as it extends at all there are splines showing. It doesn't completely collapse like the regular Cherokee one does.
I measured the farthest parts of the shaft, outer ear to outer ear and the stock shaft was around 31, this was around 30.5. Fully extended this one is about 36.5
ZJ 96/98 4.0 33.000 w/ 242 52098707
This ^ is two of the shafts that I measured, including the one that is on my Jeep now, but it is not that long. And I pulled the shafts out of them myself.
The other shaft was this:
ZJ 93/96 5.2 33.000 w/ 231 53008427
All were the same. Only thing I can't confirm is the part numbers because they are all worn off.
