Default SYE Trouble using Front DS

Got my Sye on. Picked my front Driveshaft up from junkyard. Put it on the rear and it seems to be fully extended at ride height. Rough country 3 inch leafs with extended shackles so I'm guessing 4-4.5in lift. Driveshaft fully extended eye to eye measures around 35 1/4.
231 transfer. 4.0 auto c8.25.

Am I missing something or is this just an odd happening.

Well I was unable to get it to extend any farther then what it is, and lifting the tires off the ground didn't extend it any more then ride height. In this picture you can see the start of splines, so I'm assuming it will extend more then this safely?

Is it the same length as your stock front DS?

Yea I measured to make sure they gave me one out of an automatic because the full service yard was cheaper and its the same size.

Mine is fine with 4 inches of lift. What SYE do you have.

I have the 4.0 auto c8.25 242 tc and a hack n tap that I had to cut down to the bare minimum for the stock shaft to work. It was almost to long.

Seems to be a lot of differing opinions out there. I almost did the same (buy a used front shaft from the JY before my install) But I decided to do the install first. Installed the AA SYE and my front shaft wasn't even close to being long enough. I'm at about 3 to 3-1/2" lift on my 98' manual trans. Mine measured 35" from yoke face to yoke face. Which means I had to have a drive shaft made.

Manual trans is shorter then an auto, so it sort of makes sense that yours was too short.

Yea I mean to me that looks to short, but I don't know how much more splines are left for it to extend more. I'm thinking a GC shaft may be a better option for me.

If at all in doubt.. (If it were me) get your measurement and take it to a DL shop. If anything you'll have piece of mind that it's the proper length,

I'll call and see what they want, but it's a woods buggy that will never see pavement so looking to keep it within a budget. But also don't want to hurt the transfer case with this shaft.

Can anyone confirm that with the splines showing like in the picture that it's at the end of its extension?

You could have used a front ds out of a grand Cherokee with the 249 t case those are about 34" collapsed.
