Default SYE Question

If I purchase a SYE from any of the many dealers is it true that I can use a front drive shaft for the rear for the contant velocity instead of buying a $300 DS? Thanks

There are limits, Lift heights etc. For a 3 inch lift a stock XJ shaft should be fine.

I just bought and installed a DirtBound SYE and used a front shaft and it works fine. It would be too long though for a non lifted jeep.

A flange style SYE will require an adapter for the Front DS to bolt onto the flange.

A Yolk style SYE will bolt right onto it with no adapter required.

I am using a stock auto front DS on the rear of my Cherokee. 5.5" lift rear stretched 1 inch. No problems.

if you have a manual with the 231 a stock front ds wont work(too short). if you have an auto with the 242(and maybe even the 231) then it should work.

x2 you have to think about what you have. AX15 is shorter than AW4, 242 is longer than 231, 8.25 is longer than d35. It doesnt cost much to lengthen or shorten a DS, like ~$120-150
