i was for competion only. was only in for 3 days. was your event a sanctioned even or just a stereo shop throwing something. your numbers all seem kinda high.
the stereo I am designing now will be using these.

I have heard the 6.5" version and they are incredible. Most people thought they were a pair of 10s. The excursion is HUGE on these. With such a small speaker, I can get good, low, and loud bass and still have space for my toolbox.

It was not a sanctioned event. But I was measured 3 times and the third time was 159db. There were some guys there hitting unreal numbers though. It very well could have been exaggerated to bring people in.

over 150db is not an easy thing to do. and people dont understand how damaging it actually is

Really any spl. Level above 140. Is just unnecessary for your dd. Thats damn right over kill....unless its for comp. Then the louder the better
You have your heart set on those subs?
Also: Are you handy with wood or fiberglass? You can build a better box for cheaper than you can buy one and to the exact airspace your sub(s) requires.
What kind of music do you listen to? Do you like a real loud bass, or do you prefer to hear the music? Do you want some subtle bass or a car shaker/deafener?

10" are good for tight bass, if you listen to more country and rap where theres heavy bass you will be better off with 12s. I have one alpine type r 12" in my xj with a ****ty legacy amp and it hits hard. My type r hits harder than 2 12"s i had and i have alot more trunk space. You dont need 2 subs to be loud. I got my sub in a box for $35 and the amp i have goes for $50 new and the wiring kit $25 and sony head unit for $60. So for a total of $170 i am very happy. You also have to remember that the power to your amp is coming from the battery so if you plan on driving at night with the bass up you will need a capacitor because the amp will draw so much power from the battery that your lights will dim when the bass hits. I dont use one since it hasnt affected anything

I would also like to know which $50 amp will drive a type r...
Because there is a 99% chance it's not happening. Sony is terrible btw, it's not that it breaks or anything, their equipment just doesn't produce a great sound.
You don't need a cap either. Just do "the big 3" grounds.
You would be able to shake the car with one 12in assuming you had the correct one and built a custom box and powered it right. A $50 amp with a $25 wiring kit won't do that... A $35 sub box will sound like ****. Yeah, it will be loud as **** but you won't hear anything else...
I have had great experiences with infinity and boston acoustics subs. Never used anything else. I have known people to run MTX, they might be great subs, but the boxes they put them in were cheaped out on. I prefer Infinity.
Next you will need an amp. Once you pick out a sub or two (if you really want those kenwoods, I'm sure they will sound great, but it's going to be hard to pick an amp out for them, they are both 8ohm VCs) then we can pick out an amp. I recommend MB Quart. They seem to have the best value. I have also used Hifonics, although I have heard things about their new equipment that they do not do rated power (they get real close, no one would be able to tell the difference anyway). I have no experience with any newer Hifonics equipment.
The HU is the most important part. I run exclusively Clarion (although I have zero experience with any clarion HUs in the past 4 years because I haven't had to buy a new HU in that long... car audio is funny. Companies fade in and out with good and bad products).
If you go with two 10s the bass will be tighter and they will hit harder than a single 12 (assuming the box and power remain similar). Two 12s will be louder, boomier, will be able to dig deeper but won't have that "tight" bass. I have one 12. It is an infinity, I built my box, and it's powered by 300wrms. It can overpower the music depending on my settings and my speakers are amped as well.
However:
If you just want to shake the car, go buy a Dual bandpass box and some 12in audiobahn subs and an audiobahn amp. Run 2 or 0 to the amp, upgrade the grounds. It will sound like poop but it will be loud as ****.
IIRC crutchfield offers a warranty.
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/ this is where I buy my equipment though.
