You can splice it into the back speaker wires and fade to the rear 50% if you want something super easy, this is what I did with my aftermarket head unit just to save some pains. You will lose some loud and it won't thump, though. From what I have heard you really should run a head unit with a dedicated Sub Out and an amp for best results.

unless your really cheap or really broke (which I totally can understand) you can pick up a budget aftermarket deck for under $150. Even on expensive *ss Crutchfields site.

You also gotta figure in the sound quality and longevity of using a head unit from 98 to run. You might be happier with a newer one. My Jensen HD550xs Has Sat, Sub, HD, iTag, 3.5mm input, hidden CD-Mp3, and SD for $50 at Walmart and I love it.
Also worth noting that they make double-wide head units now that will utilize ALL of the space in your dash instead of a piece of plastic with a tiny head unit in it.

Most double sins done fit in Cherokees because A double is still a bit wider than what the dash has room for.

Unfortunately, Mine isn't a double. It was a clearance that I originally bought for my 86 Ranger. Jeep enters picture with an old Alpine that I didn't really like and Kickers all the way around and The Ranger loses a head unit. I just saw the Clarions in Crutchfield and thought they would be neat to have. Come to think of it... I have an Alpine with Sub, motorized CD Hide, and XM for $30 if anyone wants it
